Map of Inverness

The Inverness Highland Games is a prestigious event on the Scottish Athletics circuit and this fact is demonstrated by the fact that the Mens 100 metre record holder at the games is none other than Scotland's Olympic Gold Medallist from the 1980 Moscow Olympic games. His time of 10.5 seconds still stands from 1987 and if you can beat that on a grass track it would be a mightily impressive feat!

2014 will be a particularly special year for athletics fans in the Highland Capital as Inverness will stage not one, but two meetings. The first will take place as usual in July. The buzz of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will likely transfer north for this meeting with juniors inspired by watching Scotland's best athletes compete in a major championship on home soil.

The second meeting will be staged as part of the 2014 homecoming celebrations and will take place in September. This event is also the Masters World Championships and athletes from around the world will be invited to compete in endurance, sprint and heavy events.

In addition the Masters World Championships will act as the opening event of a 6 week festival in Inverness named Homecoming Highland. It will prove to be an exciting period for athletics in Inverness, as well as for residents and visitors to the capital of the Highlands. Whether as a competitor or a spectator, the history of the event as well as the stunning location make for a memorable Highland Games that is well worth a visit.
